The Redwood forests of Northern California are some of the most unique woods in the United States. The forest is comprised of Coastal Redwood trees, ancient arbor giants that stand at almost 300 feet tall in some cases. Many of these trees are centuries old and live over 2000 years in many cases. Being in the presence of these giant trees is a awe-inspiring experience that reminds you just how small you really are. Besides the Redwoods National Park, there are about a dozen state parks that feature these giants, and provide great access and trails. All are an easy drive from Crescent City, in either direction. Redwood National Park is headquartered here and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is the last in a long string of redwood parks that stretch up the beautiful Northern California coast approximately nine miles east of Crescent City on Highway 199.

The beauty of Crescent City doesn’t just lie in the forests. Crescent City is located on Hwy 101 on the scenic Northern California coast about 20 miles south of the Oregon border. This coastal town is named for the crescent-shaped stretch of sandy beach just south of the city. With Crescent City’s numerous majestic beaches Surfers of all ages and experience levels can catch a wave all year long off the shores of Del Norte County, where magnificent beaches offer consistent swells, uncrowded waters and breathtaking scenery. Overlooking the town’s harbor, the 1856 Battery Point Lighthouse and a few miles down the road is St. George Reef that was built after the 1865 shipwreck of The Brother Jonathan. Crescent City is packed with things to do whether you prefer to stay indoors or outdoors. Visitors can get out and explore, while hiking, one of the many scenic trails in the city and surrounding areas or hit the links at one of the golf courses in town.
